The people of Nuh(AS) disbelieved in him. The leaders of the community said to him:
They said: ‘O Noah! Surely you have disputed with us and have prolonged your dispute. Now bring upon us the chastisement that you threaten us with; do so, if you are truthful.’
This was the last straw.
The people would not leave their idols whom they worshipped. The idols were actually good righteous human beings who lived a long time here. People felt sorry after they died and advice of Shaitan(Satan) they built idols over a period. This was over from the image)photo) to ultimately statutes and finally worship. The greatest sin on the face of the earth is Shirk or associating partners with Almighty Allah. Shirk or idol worship has no forgiveness if not repented before death.(Islamic perspective).
The people were deeply attached to their idols:
And they conspired an immense conspiracy. And said, ‘Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwa’ or Yaghuth and Ya’uq and Nasr.
. (Qur’an 71:22).
The idols were of righteous people who died a long time. No knowledge was available about the idols or of their origin. The next generations did not even know why the idols were worshipped because they saw their parents worshipping.
There is a temple of Bollywood Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan built by Sanjay Patodiya. This is actually a great sin by both the maker of the temple and some of it will be shared by Mr. Bachchan since he did not object.
The l reply of Nuh(AS):
“Allah will only bring it to you if He wills, and you will not cause [Him] failure. And my advice will not benefit you – although I wished to advise you – If Allah should intend to put you in error. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned.” (Qur’an 11:33-34)
His people threatened Nuh(AS) since they wanted still wanted to continue worshipping idols:
“If you do not desist, O Nuh, you will surely be of those who are stoned.” (Qur’an 26:116)
At this point, prayer is made for the destruction of the people.
“My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day. But my invitation increased them not except in flight. And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.
(Qur’an 71:5-7)
My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss.
And they conspired an immense conspiracy. And said, ‘Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwa’ or Yaghuth and Ya’uq and Nasr. And already they have misled many. And, [my Lord], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error
My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant. Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever.
My Lord, forgive me and my parents, and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction.
This verse is an important one as it shows the greatest sin is associating partners with Allah.
In a previous post, the Prophet Nuh(AS) was told no no else will believe.
And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, ‘Praise to Allah who has saved us form the wrongdoing people.’ And say, ‘My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].’ (Qur’an 23:28-29)
[So it was], until when Our command came and the oven overflowed, We said, “Load upon the ship of each [creature] two mates and your family, except those about whom the word has preceded, and [include] whoever has believed.” But none had believed with him, except a few
The ark was boarded by Nuh, his family, and a few believers. This included his:
• Three sons: Sham(Shem ), Ham and Yafith(Japeth).
• Sons’wives
• Wife(another ).
His unbelieving wife and son called Cannan did not board the ark. The no of people including the family of Nuh(AS) was numbered eighty. Seventy-three children of Prophet Sheesh (AS) -Seth in the Bible.
It would be interesting to know the region:
• Syria
• Palestine
• Jordan
• Israel
Were called Country of Sham’’ or Bilad us Sham because these region was given to Sham (Shem), son of Prophet Nuh. The term Semitic comes from this name.
“O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers.”
(Qur’an 11:42)
The son’s reply was:
“I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water.”
Nuh(AS) replies:
“There is no protector today from the decree of Allah , except for whom He gives mercy.”
The son was drowned among the strong waves.
And the people of Nuh – when they denied the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful punishment. (Qur’an 25:37)
The people who perished were:
• Sons of Qabil (Cain). Qabil or Cain was the first person to commit the first murder.
• His disbelieving Son
• Disbelieving wife.
According to Hadith, on the Day of Judgment, people of Nuh (AS) will not recognize him. The Ummah of Muhammad (pbuh) will testify to this fact.
